Following are the reasons to export mailboxes in Office 365 Exchange Online<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To ensure availability of mails offline for:\n<ul>\n<li>Business continuity during breakdown \/ failures.<\/li>\n<li>For forensic analysis of selective mail content<\/li>\n<li>For compliance and regulatory needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For archiving, reuse and sharing mail items, folders and other user data.<\/li>\n<li>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vyapinsoftware.com\/blog\/how-to-de-provision-users-using-vyapin-office-365-manager\"><strong>deprovisioning Office 365 users<\/strong><\/a> and moving their mail content offline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>So, what does the Microsoft Office 365 Portal offer?<\/h2>\n<p>There are no specific tools or a PowerShell cmdlet (like the <strong>New-MailboxExportRequest<\/strong> cmdlet in on-premises Exchange) to export your Exchange online mailboxes to PST. However, you can use the Microsoft\u2019s in-place <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/eDiscovery-in-Office-365-143b3ab8-8cb0-4036-a5fc-6536d837bfce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>eDiscovery<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0PST export tool available in your Exchange Online admin center or the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Export-or-backup-email-contacts-and-calendar-to-an-Outlook-pst-file-14252b52-3075-4e9b-be4e-ff9ef1068f91?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Import and Export wizard<\/strong><\/a> available in your Microsoft Outlook to export your mailboxes.<\/p>\n<h3>How to configure and export office 365 mailboxes to PST using eDiscovery?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once you login into your Office 365 admin portal, open the Export\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mailbox Search<\/strong>\u00a0roles are added in the\u00a0<strong>Roles<\/strong> By default, \u2018Mailbox Import Export\u2019 role will not be assigned for this role group. I\u2019m selecting \u2018Sara Davis\u2019 mailbox for performing the search. You can skip this step.
